Okay sorry if this has already been answered, but:
Is Eye of the North the last offical expansion for GW1?
I'm slightly bummed because GW2 isn't going to have a sweeping a story as the first one. Basically you're just a cog in the machine. That kinda thing always put me off MMOs.
Also what's classed as holidays for people who don't live stateside. IE what month?
cheers

lvl 20 cap was good for a while, but ultimatly it just limited a lot of players I think, PvE wise. With such a low cap many players got bored.

Oh and this is for those flaming away ignorantly at Guild Wars 2. You need to keep in mind that once the game is released you'll be looking at somewhere in 2009 or late 2008. That's quite a long time from now. Guild Wars has been in development since 2003 and released in 2005 and it just can't stay competitive engine wise. Anet has been restrictive with these chapters due to this fact. They certainly couldn't release a chapter that wouldn't run on machines from the first one now could they?
Guild Wars 2 was inevitable. Graphical issues aside look at what happened to Everquest. That series went on for too long before releasing the sequel which resulted in a flop. Honestly would you rather Guild Wars 2 to come out in 2015 instead? Think of all the time and money you'd have spent on chapters just to have to start all over again anyhow. Besides, we will all be busy with our Hoverboards and flying deloreans around then.
And as far as the content in Guild Wars 2 goes.... what the hell is the matter with you people? You get a couple of paragraphs of information and you think that's enough to judge a game so far down the road. I'm not saying there isn't going to be anything in Guild Wars 2 to complain about but give anet a break eh? Don't worry eventually you people may have a legitimate reason to complain about the content but right now you all look totally rediculous passing judgement so soon. If anything it's the timeframe of content we should be worried about. Anet has exceeded my expectations more then any other company and is one of the very few out there that actually give a damn about you obnoxious whiners. You should be so lucky.

As it stands now, you can reach level 20 naturally by following the storyline and completing two 15 attribute quests. Additional experience over level 20 does not add more attribute points. Having a limited number of attribute points (200) and limited number of skills (8) at a time is the aspect of GW I really enjoy. Since all players can easily acquire level 20 and all attribute points, the only difference between two players is their skill. However, if you have level 100 player that had a luxury to grind several hours a day with many more attribute points than level 20 player, the player with higher level will be better just because s/he spent more time playing the game. If level will be only an indicator of experience, then I am all for it, but if high level characters will have significantly better abilities compared to low level characters, a player that grinded more will be better than a player with better skill.
|
If that's true with GW2 then I'm fine with everything. The high level cap is really the only thing I don't like.
I can see advantages for that system. I mean wouldn't it be fun to brag about how you killed a level 100 with a level 20

Anet still has the skill over time mentality, just look at Pvp. What is the point of having that mentality in PvE?

I am HIGHLY disappointed in the level cap. All they need now is to slap a monthly fee on and its WoW! Oh freaking boy.

I get the same feeling aswell & this "strategy" with GW2 does remind me of ShadowLands expansion for AnarchOnline: disregard what made the product unique & go bland/vanilla.
(Short version SL basically turned AO into a bad everquest-clone & messed up several classes in the process).
Oh well time for me to check out "Lord of the rings online" & "Chronicles of Spellborn" since I doubt GW:EN will be worth staying for (7-8 months until its released & then another year for GW2).

The most important question for (probably/many) people here: What will be the requirments? I know there wont be exactly information yet, but it would be great if we knew if you can play GW2 with an GW1-able PC, or if you need Vista/XP or things like that... Birthday soon and ill get my PC up if i need better for GW2...
Windows Me
320~mb ram
Radeon 8XXX
1 ghz
and gw1 runs on it, but not THAT good. if i need a pc with 2+ghz, 1giga ram and radeon 9XXX id start save money now <.<

Well I think this is a great step. Really seems like they are putting a lot of replayablity in this one. Can't wait for GWEN and GW2. I can't wait to see some pictures either.
About all the negative people, I can see you may not like the ideas but quit saying it will be another WoW. It won't be out for TWO (thats right 2) years. You haven't seen it, you haven't seen how the mechanics work, and you haven't seen how it will all be implemented.

All I got to say is WoW...literally..
If this goes the way it sounds, I probably wont be playing.
I seem to remember multiple times, gaile said "The lvl 20 cap will always be there, and will never be raised"
So much for that!

Ok so lets say they raise the cap to 60? What if it's 4 million exp (just an example number) and your char already has 4 mill exp? Do you become lvl 60 automatically?
I am very excited, knowing that there are no monthly fees.
What does the abbrev. GWEN mean? People keep saying it and I don't understand.

ANet was not made by stupid people. I can tell you right now, Infinite Levels doesnt mean Infinite strength. Im sure itll be more of a skillpoint/cosmetic thing or sort of A naming system for the current leveling (Leveling tell twenty wields bonus's, afterwards you just gain skillpoints) system. But ah well, We need to wait to see how it goes before going doom and gloom.

I'm neutral about it. With Guild Wars 2 i'm not gonna instantly jump up with the crowds and make witty little names like "World Of Guildcraft" or "Grind Wars 2" without seeing it. I cant make an opinion based on that info because some of it is damn right confusing. However i have faith in Anet and it is in the future and theres a hell load of time for development and information.
Guild Wars: Eye of the North sounds great though. It will be cool to finally head back to Tyria and explore more regions.Lookign forward to seeing soem of these new races and the storyline. Was pleasently suprised to see Anet had thrown The Great Destroyer back in to give us more lore about him.

I don't get this, what's the point if it doesn't last forever stuff? What's the point in eating ice cream if it'll only be gone in 10 minutes. What's the point in paying 8 bucks for a movie I'll only have memories of. The point is to gain $40 (or whatever it costs) worth of entertainment. If you get 10 hrs, thats the same rate as at the cinema but you know you'll get dozens or more, so what's the problem.
I'll be honest, I'm sad this will be potentially it for GW1 and the possibility of a dearth of instanced areas worries me a bit. I don't play PvP much because I like to relax and go at my own pace. If I have to compete with other groups or do different quests because the group decides, that doesn't sound so great. I have the feeling that won't be how it plays out though, so I'll just wait and see. Maybe I'm misunderstanding that.

No! Guild wars 1 will not have transferable characters or such into guild wars 2. It's been said.
